BASIC RELIGION

The Spirit of God has led me to give a test this morning .. a test to see if you are living up to “Basic Religion”.  Write 1 – 12 on your notes and write your answers next to each number.

1.        Have you made Jesus LORD of your life??

Rom 10:9-10 (NKJ)

9           that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10          For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2.        Are you sinning??

The very GRAVE part about the news we are hearing about priests and other ministers sinning, is that we expect them to have high standards.

Rom 6:12-13 (NIV)

12             Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

13          Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.

Ps 119:11(KJV)

11          Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

  1. Are you talking too much??

If anyone here thinks this is directed towards you, please  know that I am sharing these test points as I heard them .. any conviction must mean God desires changes in your life so that life can improve !!

James 1:26 (KJV)

26          If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

James 1:26 (NIV)

26          If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

1 Tim 5:13 (NIV)

13             Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.

  1. Are you attending church regularly??

Heb 10:25 (KJV)

25          Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Regular Sunday attendance is GOOD for you .. attending Wednesday and special services is even better !!!

  1. Are you studying the Bible regularly??

  1. Are you praying constantly??

1Thes 5:17 (KJV)

17          Pray without ceasing.

Be in contact with God .. be conscious of God .. be aware of His presence CONSTANTLY !!

  1. Are you loving God with all of your heart and your soul and your mind and your strength??

Matt 22:36-38 (NIV)

36             "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

37          Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'

38          This is the first and greatest commandment.

  1. Are you loving your neighbor as yourself??

Matt 22:38-40 (NIV)

38          This is the first and greatest commandment.

39          And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

40          All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

  1. (Extra Credit) Are you caring for widows??

James 1:27

27          Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress ..

  1. Are you keeping yourself UNSPOTTED from the world??

James 1:27 (NIV)

27          Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Have you sold out to Jesus?

Mark 10:17-31 (NIV)

17          As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

18          "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-- except God alone.

19          You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.'"

20             "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy."

21          Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22          At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23          Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!"

24          The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God!

25          It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

26          The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"

27          Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

28          Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!"

29          "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel

30          will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields-- and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.

31          But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

Some people that I know (including Pat Robertson and myself) literally felt the LORD telling them to sell all and did so.  Others of you will feel compelled right now not necessarily to literally “sell all” and follow Him, but to “sell out” and follow Him.  Have you “sold out” to Him??  Are you under His command?? (1 Tim 6:18-19)
